How do you play After Bingo?

Updated on

Open the game in your browser, pick your man and press Play. A round lasts five minutes: everyone starts with a knife, grabs better weapons off the floor and fights everyone else, bots or friends, and whoever has the most kills when the clock runs out wins. Keyboard and mouse, a gamepad and touch all work, with no account and nothing to install.

A round, start to finish

The first time you play, the game asks who you are: Stan or Lou, and a name if you want one. Then Play opens the match setup, where you choose the map, how many bots and how hard they play. A short countdown, and you are in. Every man has 60 health and nothing heals by itself. When you die, a line says who got you and with what, and a moment later you come back at a spawn with the knife, briefly protected. When the clock runs out the scoreboard shows the kills, the deaths and the round's awards, and the next round starts by itself after a short countdown unless you go back to the menu.

Keyboard and mouse

  • W, A, S and D, or the arrow keys, move you.
  • The mouse aims: your man faces the pointer.
  • The left mouse button or Space attacks. Hold it for the flamethrower and the SMG.
  • Shift dashes.
  • V walks instead of running, for careful steps.
  • Tab shows the scoreboard.
  • Escape pauses, and in the menus it goes one panel back.

Touch, on a phone or a tablet

There are no fixed buttons to hunt for. Put a finger down anywhere and a stick appears under it: that finger walks. A second finger, while the first is down, aims, and pushing it far attacks along that aim. The sticks follow your thumbs, so a turn reads from where your thumb is now, not where it landed. Without a second finger, your man faces the way he walks.

  • A quick tap attacks the nearest enemy in reach, in any direction.
  • Aim assist turns your aim onto an enemy close to where you point, within your weapon's reach. It never picks a man behind a wall, under a tree or just respawned, and Options turns it off.
  • A quick swipe of the walking finger dashes the way you swipe, from a standstill or in the middle of a walk. A slow drag only walks.
  • The round buttons at the top open the scoreboard (tap again to close it) and the pause.

Gamepad

  • The left stick moves you and the right stick aims. Push the right stick far and you attack.
  • The right trigger attacks too, and A dashes.
  • The left shoulder button walks.
  • Select shows the scoreboard, Start pauses, and B goes back in the menus.

The dash

A dash throws you 2.5 tiles in 0.18 seconds, the way you are moving, or the way you were moving a moment ago, or else the way you aim. Then it needs 1.5 seconds before the next. Walls stop it, other players do not: everyone passes through everyone. Nothing fires while you dash, so dash in, then strike. Use it to close on a gun, to get out of a sledgehammer's ring or to cross a doorway under fire.

Weapons and health packs

Walk over a weapon on the floor to pick it up; it replaces the one in your hand. Each weapon sits in its own spot and comes back a while after someone takes it, so the same fights happen at the same places. The weapons page says what each one does.

A health pack heals 30 and comes back after 25 seconds. It only works when you are hurt: at full health you walk over it and it stays for someone else. Each map has six of them.

Hiding under the trees

Stand under a tree's canopy, or under the gazebo's roof on the Community Centre, and you are hidden. The leaves turn see-through for you alone and the screen says Hidden; everyone else sees only the tree. Bots lose you there unless they come close enough to peek, which only Hard and Very hard bots do, or you just hit them or fired near them. Your shots, your flashes and your dash still show, so a hidden man who fires gives himself away.

The pause and the scoreboard

Against bots, the pause stops the match until you resume. Online it does not, since the others play on; your man just stands still. The scoreboard lists every player by kills, then by fewer deaths, with each one's level beside the name. At the end of a round it adds the five awards: Top Dog, On a Roll, Dead Eye, First Blood and Punching Bag.

What a round pays

A round you play to its end pays 20 XP, 10 XP a kill, 50 XP for the win and 25 XP an award, plus bonuses for things like the first round of the day or a kill with four different weapons. It pays bingo balls too, which buy prizes. Against harder bots both are worth more. Ranks and prizes has the whole table, the bots page the multipliers, and playing with friends how to get a match going online.
